The area around the Zen Temple belong to one of the Shinobi factions on Takoshima. They have their hidden ninja village near the temple. The Temple grounds were redesigned to improve the escort mission from the original game.
One of the Zen gardens is a mini replica of the entire island, with lanterns and trees marking points of interest.

The end result you see in the game is the culmination of a great team effort, and I want to give a big shout out to everyone involved!
